Tuberculosis has emerged as a major killer in our country with
its devastating consequences for human, and social and economic
development. Accounting for nearly a third of all Tuberculosis
cases in the world, India confronts a serious challenge to
public health with alarming spread of this infectious disease
among our people. In our arduous task to eradicate this disease,
the Revised national Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) has
aimed a substantially increasing access to free and
uninterrupted high quality TB diagnostic and curative services
to millions of our people. There is an urgent need to expand
these facilities all over the country so that affected citizens
can take advantage of this Programme. World TB day which is
being observed on 24th March, is yet another reminder
to all of us for re-dedicating ourselves to the challenging task
of eliminating this scourge for health and well being of our
people.
On this occasion I extend my greetings and
good wishes to all those who are in forefront in fighting this
menace to our public health.
